The dominant narratives in innovative finance—and even in well-intentioned movements like gender lens investing—are too often constrained by overly simplistic assumptions. The belief that merely directing capital toward companies with women in the C-suite will meaningfully advance gender equality, or that faith-based investing can rely solely on individual morality to remedy systemic inequities, reduces complex power structures to box-checking exercises. These narratives may be familiar, but they limit what investors imagine possible.
